When we think, in 2020 nothing can get any more worse, something comes up which says "hold on to this thought". Inflation has been problem for a very long time, every government which comes up by the election has promised an aid to this major problem but, issue still persists.
This post is not regarding the regular inflation that effects petrol price or other things but, about the most basic need of the human 'food'. Yes, as everyone can experience it that there is intolerable inflation that has effected the price of fruits and vegetables. People were managing till the potato was 'Mehanga' costly but it has become 'Kimati' expensive and it is very difficult for poor and people of lower middle class to manage.
Reasons of inflation in vegetable prices
Due to COVID lock-down the cost of production increased for farmers due to black-marketing and lack of labor and workers that are required in course of production. In India most farmers don't have the technical advancements to store the vegetables and are forced to sell their crops in a very cheap price to middlemen who further manipulate the prices. This very disgraceful information makes an implication to the failure of the government and administration.
This years heavy inflation is also because of destruction of crops due to heavy rainfall in several states.
Does Inflation in vegetables mean more money for the farmers?
If someone buys something from a retail shop and pays INR 100 how much does the manufacturer receives lets say INR 70 and rest involves merchant cut of retailer, distributor and GST. Seems logical isn't it. Can anyone imagine the manufacturer is in loss because, mostly it does not happens.
Unfortunately this is the truth of the crop manufacture farmer in India. As mentioned earlier farmers have to sell the vegetables in a very cheap price to middlemen. This year price of potato in the market can be 50-60 Rs./Kg. It has been brought to attention by several media sources that farmer don't receive even a quarter of the market price.
Vegetable Inflation what is the resolution?
This issue now requires very concrete and special attention from government, administration and mass. The issue prevails only because of negligence yes we should have questioned when the potato was costly now it is expensive. Who knows, it will not be precious in future?
